National Carp Day

I am hereby proposing a new national holiday - Carp Day. This will occur on April 10th and to celebrate, all one has to do is catch a carp on a fly. Simple.
No cards. No last minute guilt stops by the florist. Nada. Just catch a carp, shake fins with it, snap a pic and send it on its merry way.
We'll even have some fun with this . . . if anyone can figure out why I chose April 10th, you'll receive a carp fly selection tied by yours truly. Just post a comment to this post and first correct answer gets the flies!

O.K., google was no help, but one stab at it...April 10th is either one of your childrens' birthdays or your wedding anniversary?

I am not thinking like a carp guide, am I? Were carp introduced in the U.S. on this day, the 100th day of the year?

So many choices...
1. My son's birthday. Important, but not likely what you're looking for.
2. Beatles broke up. Not sure carp care much about them unless they're decaying on a silty lake bottom.
3. Ringo Starr's "Caveman" debuts and is wildly labeled a pile of carp. (Obligatory dad joke? Check.)
4. Titanic sets sail on 1st (and last) voyage with great fanfare.
5. Great Gatsby is published.

I suspect all are wildly missing the mark. By the way, Flying Carp Day is May 5. You could piggyback on that and give Cinco de Mayo a run for its money.

Here is is: Latin for Carp:

Cyprinus carpio

Total # of Letters: 14

April 10 also = 4/10

4+10 = 14

Same number of letters.

spooky. and way-off. I would think someone with your fine, east-coast education and steeped knowledge of fly fishing lore would do better.

And we have a winner, folks! Leave it to the man from the Catskills with the Theodore Gordon streak to pull out the random Issak Walton quote! That's right, he put it down in Compleat Angler in a WHOLE CHAPTER on carp (and you thought it was just about trout).
